So it's True Then ***SPOILERS***

Well, I totally broke my own personal rule and read the sides.  Thanks TT!  Actually, I'm sort of glad I read them.

I'm attempting to put this behind a cut ...

Okay, so I don't think the sperm bank thing works out for him.

But Brennan wants a kid?  It seems very OOC, but last night's ep seemed to be foreshadowing.  (Or hitting us over the head with it - it wasn't exactly subtle.)

So I guess she has a change of heart on wanting kids?

Then tells Booth it's him or Fisher?

Then Stewie talks him out of it?

Then they actually do it?

I don't know, ya'll.  After last night's ep, I feel like there is a slight chance they could lead up to this appropriately, but the whole thing still bothers me.  A lot.

That said, we're all creative thinkers so I pose the question again:  How can this work in a way we can live with?

Well, as I said before, I can see Brennan deciding that having a child is not as bad as she once thought (in the days when the very thought of family was a knife in the heart). Naturally, if she were to look to the people she knew for 'genetic donation,' Booth, who has already proven himself not only a suitable sperm donor but also a good parental figure, would be the most logical person to ask.

And to be frank, Stewie makes perfect sense to me as a 'baby from hell' cautionary figure for Booth when thinking about procreating, rather bloodlessly, with a woman he has been hovering in love with for four years.

OK. I'm not saying it is a GOOD idea. I'm just saying that I can see how they got there.

I'm HORRIFIED by the thought of Brennan and Fisher's putative offspring. Mr. Nigel-Murray, on the other hand...

Oh come on. It's not that bad, is it? After all, this is the gang that made ZACK the cannibal's apprentice!

Oh, wait. It IS that bad!!

I am equally horrified by the thought of Brennan+Fisher offspring. And you're right, Booth has proven himself a suitable candidate. I told DH the other day that if I didn't stop watching when they did what they did with Zack, then why would this stop me?

LMAO! Me too - and you know, scary big brain science lady has baby - could be!

I just have to share what my DH said the other day...
I was freaking over the FG spoiler (which, like you said, after reading the sides I have calmed a bit... it's still ridiculous in my head though.) and had to go into the whole spoiler schpiel for him... including Booth being at a sperm bank in the jerk tank, and his reply was:
"So Bones will screw anything that moves, but not Booth?"
I had to laugh, cause in a way, he's so right. *sigh*

As far as how Brennan gets to that point... I'm still kinda clueless. I just really don't have the faith I should anymore in the writers, to give us a continuous build into that storyline. But I have no intention of abandoning the show... I just like to rant and rave. :)

It's Brennan wanting to have a kid that bugs me - after they have gone to such great lengths to insist for 4 years that she doesn't. I mean, if she had been on the fence about it in the past but she was adamant ... I just can't seem to wrap my brain about such an about-face.

I have been mulling this over big time as, like you, I was made to feel a bit better reading the sides as to the whole hallucinations - why Booth would say yes - that he might then say 'Hang on, NO!' .. but I still couldn't work out why Brennan would suddenly want a baby.

Then I thought maybe it's all about connection for her. She has shown lately that she is interested in connecting to other people on a deeper level than that which she feels she has so far - I almost think she might see having a child as a sure-fire way to create an intimate connection with another person without all that relationship stuff. We know she has come to accept that Max loves her and she loves Max. She sees Russ with Hayley and Emma. Maybe all that "evidence" leads her to expect any child of hers to love her without question too.

We also know that she is scared of connecting with Booth - the way she shut down when he "died" and her determination to maintain that she successfully "compartmentalized" her feelings when that happened.

Here's what I hope - that when Booth explains that he can't just father her child and then step back, and when it becomes apparent that he is seriously ill and she has to face all that again, maybe she will realise that she IS connected to him, and he to her (he was willing to do this for her despite not wanting to) and scary as that is, it turns out OK and (overwhelmed) she ends up in bed with him.

Phew!

I feel better now :)

PS. Space had a wonderous epiphany yesterday, that maybe all this talk of ramifications into S5, and babies is a red herring - it is Angela who will have fallen pregant, sleeping with Hodgins after being with Roxy, when she could quite conceivably have stopped birth control ;)

i can totally buy your "connection" theory, hon. *takes notes for fan-authored substitute season finale*

And this:
that when Booth explains that he can't just father her child and then step back, and when it becomes apparent that he is seriously ill and she has to face all that again, maybe she will realise that she IS connected to him, and he to her (he was willing to do this for her despite not wanting to) and scary as that is, it turns out OK and (overwhelmed) she ends up in bed with him.
would totally fucking make my millennium. I would never need anything for Christmas or birthdays again if they would give us some flippin' SERIOUS EMOTION from them in regards to this situation AND tie in an emotional response to last season's SNAFU as well. God, I'd be ecstatic... and hey, for all I care, after that they could give Stewie a recurring walk-on role... okay, maybe not. *g*

LMAO!

I know, it would totally make my millennium too - LOL at no Christmas or Birthday presents ever being required again. The thing in those sides which gives me the greatest hope, is having Booth say 'Actually, no.' I am really looking forward to watching this now.... although will still be watching Stewie through my fingers I expect! :)

ETA: AND tie in an emotional response to last season's SNAFU

Abso-frellin-lutely!!!!

After reading everybody's comments and mulling it over myself for way more time than I possibly should, here's where I am with this:

1. The Angela Theory is excellent. They love a good red herring on this show and that would be awesome. Plus HH and others have mentioned what a tough road is ahead for her and Hodgins ...

2. After re-watching 'Salt' I think Brennan will see choosing to have a baby alone reaffirms her ability to be a completely independent woman. She will see it as asserting herself by only needing a man for sperm.

3. I still hold out hope that the baby-making sex is not the sex we see in the finale. If they want ramifications then those two getting it on for no reason except they can no longer deny the attraction - that's ramifications.

4. And Booth's mystery illness that causes hallucinations? I would say brain tumor but that seems too obvious. Maybe some medication reaction? People on steroid therapy have been known to hallucinate, and Booth himself hallucinated in S1 after the meds they gave everyone during the careful Lionel case.

So now I feel much more ready to take a wait and see attitude, because it is possible they won't screw this up.

ETA: The newest press release for upcoming eps indicates Angela's dad is going to be back in 'The Science in the Physicist' to get 'revenge on Hodgins'. The Ange/Hodgy baby idea is growing legs!
